At Caldmore Primary Academy we endeavour to develop pupils creativity and imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials and processes. We help to build the children’s confidence, concentration, curiosity, creativity and have an enthusiasm for learning.
Art in Early Years
Children are taught to look closely at the natural and man-made world recording their observations through the exploration of a variety of materials and tools during practical work.
They develop an understanding of the language of art and learn to control tools with safety and care.
Art in KS1
Children are taught to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products. They use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. Children will learn about a range of artists and will learn to describe the differences and similarities between them.
Art in KS2
Children are taught more complex activities which build on their skills and improve their control of materials, tools, techniques.
They learn to discuss different purposes for art and describe how artists have represented their ideas – making use of art vocabulary. They learn to apply what they have learned from the work of artists in an imaginative way.
Below is an example of the processes, materials and techniques used at Caldmore.
