At Caldmore Primary Academy we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.

At our school we:

– help children to understand their emotions and feelings better

– help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries

– help children socially to form and maintain relationships

– promote self esteem and ensure children know that they count

– encourage children to be confident and ‘dare to be different’

– help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks

We offer different levels of support:

Universal Support for all– To meet the needs of all our pupils  through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum. For instance developing resilience for all.

Additonal support– For those who may have short term needs and those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as bereavement.

Targeted support–  For pupils who need more differentiated support and resources or specific targeted interventions such as wellbeing groups or personal mentors.

Healthy Body Healthy Mind day!

3 times a year, we proudly run a ‘Healthy body, healthy mind’ day. We encourage our children to celebrate their uniqueness and share ways to stay positive.

When we have a positive view of ourselves, it can help us to cope with life’s challenges. We learn to recognise the different qualities of others which can allow us to connect with those around us – this is vital for our own and others’ well-being!

We do activities such as:

– Meditation

– Playing games

– Exercising

– Looking at healthy foods

– Talking about our feelings

– Cooking

and lots more!

At Caldmore Primary Academy we believe the 5 things needed for a positive attitude (good mental health) are:

  • Keeping our bodies healthy by exercising and eating healthy
  • Taking time to relax
  • Helping and being kind to others
  • Sharing feelings (good or bad!)
  • Having fun!!!!

We show this using the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind hand. This is what our Healthy Body, Healthy Mind days are based around – we focus on different parts of the hand each time!

What can you do at home?

  • Go for a walk
  • Ride your bike
  • Play games as a family
  • Meditate to relaxing music
  • Play football
  • Make healthy food such as smoothies!
  • Just dance
  • Help your family (for example, cleaning!)
  • Talk to a family member or friend if you are feeling sad
  • Talk to your family about the fantastic things you are doing at school

Anything that will make you feel happy!
